NCSC [National Cyber Security Centre] in the U.K has issued a warning against the telecom industry for using equipment and services from ZTE. This statement was released on April 15, the day United States Department of Commerce banned US Companies from selling parts to the company. NCSC’s statement has mentioned $1.2 billion dollar fine for ZTE.
A letter from NCSC’s technical director, Ian Levy has circulated to the network operator in U.K says: “Use of ZTE equipment or services within existing telecommunications infrastructure would present the risk to U.K. national security that could not be mitigated effectively or practicably,” Says Financial Times. A Brief statement published on NCSC website “Duty to highlight potential risks to the U.K’s national security and provide advice based on our technical expertise.”
According to the IHS Markit, Currently, ZTE is the world’s fourth-largest supplier of the telecom equipment. Huawei is the front-runner of telecom equipment with the share size twice to the ZTE’s market share. In the UK Huawei is the major supplier of infrastructure equipment.
